Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
