Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can anticipate learning which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
