19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with former trainer his previous coach.

Presently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's first trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

His defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, supported by an improved serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

The opponent rescued four early-game chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
